Back to the Gym

Sigh. New Years' resolutions are here again. This year I'm going to get back to going to the gym regularly. I've been going with one of my wonderful friends, Carrie, for almost two years now. I was doing really well until about Fall. After we both had several schedule changes, I just never got back into the groove again. But come next week, I'll be back! ... Anyhow. Carrie and I go to spin class, and the teacher usually has us do a mat workout afterward. The mats that the gym provide are... well... gross. So, for Carrie's birthday, I got her one of those yoga mats. Well then I decided that she needed a cute bag to go with her mat (hey, at that ridiculous hour of morning when we're at the gym, we'll take out perks where we can get 'em). So I pulled out my sewing project calendar, and found directions to make one. I think it came out pretty cute!!

Here's the top view

Now I just need to make myself one so I can be fully ready for the gym next week!

Hostess Gifts

This weekend was busy but so much fun!! On Saturday night, Zak and I went with our friends to see the boat parade at the beach. It was so pretty! We got to see the parade at our friends' aunt's house (read: her AMAZING beach house). Afterward we walked around the Naples area in Long Beach to see the gorgeous houses all lit-up. It was lovely! I can't wait to go back! But next time, I'll be going in my flip-flops, not adorable heeled boots. On Sunday we got to visit Sarah and Richard (can I just tell you how excited I am that they're only 45 short minutes away!?) and spend the day wine tasting in Temecula. We had a blast! I can't wait to do that again either. I promise, Sarah, I will be the driver next summer and YOU can enjoy the wine :) So I came across a recipe for sugared cranberries that looked so pretty! Now, let me tell you that i do not love cranberries. I'll take a little spoonful at Thanksgiving, but that's it. I mostly just thought these little berries were really pretty, so I gave them a shot. These were SO. GOOD. I made a big batch and packaged them for both hostesses.

I can't wait to make more of these!

I love my small group. We're very close and spend lots of time together. Most of the time we hang out, it's at the Davis' house. Over the years, their amount of coasters has dwindled. Since I always feel bad about setting my cup on their glass table top, I thought I'd make them some coasters for Christmas. They have kids, so I thought chalkboard coasters would be a fun idea!

I think these would be fun for all of us. How great would these be for a wine tasting party?? (By the way, wine tasting is my new favorite activity)

So I packaged them up and will present them with a package of chalk and an eraser.

I didn't take any pictures along the way, but these are just tiles from Home Depot. I primered them and spray-painted the chalkboard paint. Once they were dry, I hot glued cork board to the bottoms. To get the chalkboard look completely ready I rubbed a piece of chalk all over the top surface, and then erased it. They might not be super-absorbant, but they're cute.

About Me

My Photo
Basically, the Pioneer Woman is my hero. I'd love to live on a sprawling ranch, cook all day and raise my gorgeous children. As for now, though, that will have to wait. This will most likely be a very random blog, covering things like parenting a pig, crafting, teaching myself how to sew, cooking, and whatever else I happen to think of. Hope you enjoy!
